BOATMONKEY (Terry Crawford). The carpet on my flybridge was slippery and the Velcro sewn in the corners to hold it in place would rip off the carpet itself. As anyone with a flybridge knows, that roof over the salon is curved and can be tough to stand on without slipping when wet unless something is on it. So I decided to try 12" X 12" rubber tiles called Dri-Dek. I bought 49 of them, 7 across and 7 deep, and they were really easy to cut and fit - all I needed was a razor knife. Those 7 fit across the bridge perfectly because my width there is 7' and 1/4" and I left the 1/4" tab on the tiles. Then I finished off the back edge with seven little 1 1/2" strips made for that purpose.
The result is one of the simplest and most successful projects I've done on the boat. Now I've always got a sturdy grip on that deck and they look great, too (I bought grey to complement my light grey boat with black trim). I eventually also lined the bottoms of the bridge lockers with the tiles, too, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. If slipping around on the bridge is an issue for you, or if, like my buddy, you have carpeting there that takes forever to dry after a rain, I encourage you to give these tiles, or another of the similar product out there, a try.
