Re: Fresh Water Holding Tank Pump

I had a welded stainless steel tank that was corroded. Glad I got rid of it. This is one place that plastic is better. Not that expensive to replace. Shop around for the best deal.

Re: Interior woods/ ways to tell difference between teak and mohogany

There are different kinds of mahogany, but they are all softer and more porous than teak. Teak will be hard, like walnut. Mahogany will have larger pores and will need a filler sometimes. You will probably just use what you have on the boat already, whatever it is. Just don't make the mistake of usi...

Re: Broken valve new engine

Any warrantee ? What broke? A spring, retainer or the actual valve? If it is a spring or a retainer a real mechanic will blow air into the cylinder and change the spring or install the retainer. If the valve is bad, pull the head and you will have to at least lap the valve. Or maybe change the seat,...

Re: salt water owners. longevity?

I've had my boat in the water here in Ketchikan for 11 years. I would say that closed cooling with anti-freeze in the engine is a must. Otherwise you will need new engines about every 10 years. I did change my exhaust risers that mixed the salt water with the exhaust. Did that last winter after ten ...

Re: Electric fuel pump issue.

I don't know why you need the relay. I would keep it simple and just power it off of the ignition switch run position. Then when you have the key on you have power to the fuel pump. One place to get this would be the +12 volt wire to the ballast resistor that then goes to the coil.

Re: Fuel tank/pickup question

On my 32 I had a new aluminum tank welded up. You might measure your hatch and figure the maximum size that will fit. I would look at a fuel tank from a semi-tractor. Lots of them out there and you might find one cheap.

Re: Bilge Blower Restoration

"The six outlets at the stern of the boat are all bilge exhausts, I now have a total of six 3” diameter bilge exhausts at my stern, four of which are passive and the other two are forced air through my bilge blower motors (these two will also add to the passive when the blowers are off). The to...

Re: Swim Ladder Question

Threw my ladder away, along with the air conditioner. Never going to need them! But what you have looks like a repair or modification. I would place a longer sleeve over or inside the bottom. A sleeve could go all the way across the bottom.

Re: 360s stalling

When it quits, check if you have ignition. Just pull the coil wire from the distributor and place it close to something grounded on the block. (Do you want to just hold it? That will also show you if you have a spark.) Crank it over and watch for a spark. If you have a spark, check for fuel. Pull th...
