Re: Help identifying switches at helm

TeeCee, My '71 doesn't have any toggle switches, they are all push/pull and are lined up along the sides of the dash panel. They are all labeled on the dash as to function. Anchor lights, running lights, bilge pump, docking lights, horn (a momentary push button). My trim tab control is a joy stick t...

Re: wire size

I went to a higher amp rated alternator to pump up my house bank while I was cruising. It didn't go so well at first. Tech support told me that rating isn't for continuous duty. I ended up putting a resistor on the output to tone things down a bit. I now have an inline fuse (and the resistor) that i...

Re: Just bought my 1st "M" and need some help..

I had a '68 and now a '71 Express. Visual read on the gauge through a hole in the deck. 80 gallons approx. I've never run it down much below 1/4. If your eyes are good, you can read the gauge while filling by setting a flashlight at the edge of the hole and don't have to be kneeling down. The glass ...

Re: Wood engine mount spacer thickness

I can't advise on the correct thickness, but I replaced the old wood spacers with 1/4 Starboard. It won't rot. A wood spacer is a short term solution. There is lots of adjustment in the mounts to align.

Re: what to do when railing screws are stripped out

Any advice on the length of rivet nut to use, or the thickness of the deck?

Re: Exhaust manifold temp

Rockxx, Your 1972 should be set up like my 1971. They changed the cooling water scheme around 1974 I have read. You should have a dual pocket water pump, four hoses. I think you can have adequate engine cooling without adequate exhaust manifold cooling if water is blocked at the transmission oil coo...

Re: Inverter/charger installation on dual engine

Hi Aquaholic, Two alternators on one battery bank doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Your voltage regulators would be fighting each other. In case of alternator failure while cruising I have jumpered the starting batteries, but just with one alternator running and connected. I have a 40 amp charg...

Re: Exhaust manifold temp

Rockxx, Mind that you read the timing at the bell housing between the engine and the transmission. Don't stick your head in front of the engine where the alternator belt is (like you would on a car). There should be a hole on top of the housing with an access cover screwed on. It's very close to whe...
