Re: Changing Packing Gland - How big of a job is this?

OK, followed your advice and everything was fine. A guy at the marina wiggled the shaft and said the bearing was fine, so I'll put it till next year.

Now for the corrosion issue (eek)

Changing Packing Gland - How big of a job is this?

Donating my 73 28 express

Hey guys, I have been silent for awhile because life got kinda busy for me. That said, I have to get rid of one of my boats. I decided to keep my M in Ohio and shed the one in Miami. Before I bother trying to sell it on craigslist and dealing with all that nonsense, I wanted to offer it up to anyone...

Re: Bottom paint in Florida

Where are you in Florida?

Trilux held up for about a year and a half.

If you are by me in Miami, I recommend you drive your boat as far north as possible to have any work done :)

Re: Steering Stuck

Great feedback. I bought the Glen L Steelmaster cable so we'll see if it gets here in time. I'm also looking at the new system too. I like the new system idea much better for the same reason Jeff noted above (easy to get parts) If I have to destroy the fork to get the old cable off, I'll simply go w...

Re: Pertronix Distributor Test

I actually had them send me a new clamp because the aluminum cap clamp fused together. I also had to replace my coil because the terminal rusted (the metal was not marine rated) Other than the corrosion issues, it runs good after a year. I do see some rough metal in the distributor cap contacts but ...

Re: Steering Stuck

I don't see the point. Its one more thing to break and its not like I usually have to struggle with the steering. Just more money :) Good news is that my rudder is free so I just need to find the replacement cable assy (which is obsolete) Any ideas on what I can use to replace the unit? Any sources ...

Re: Steering Stuck

UG - Mine does something similar but I cant see if its twisting because I'm turning the wheel. I'm ordering everything now so I have it if needed because the holiday is near. Everything is so rusted, I cant even disconnect from the lever. The rudder shaft slides up and down when I try to bang the pi...
