Re: 318/392 Stroker Motors

I do not believe the overheating caused the blown head gasket. I believe its the result of a blown head gasket. It started at 160 then fluctuated between 160 and 200. Yea it went to 220 but only momentarily. It runs/starts well, only under wot does it start stumbling. Only further disassembly will t...

Re: 318/392 Stroker Motors

Well, i have bad news, the port motor has blown another head gasket between cylinder one and three. This is the third one. She will run up to 4,000rpm and then backs off to 3200rpm. No water in the oil thank you Lord. Will probably pull the motor, check for worpped heads and block and try it one mor...

Re: 318/392 Stroker Motors

Considering trying "Barnacle Buster", let it sit in the engine for four hours and then open the fresh water valve and flushing the engine. It is really meant for salt water closed cooling systems however they do claim rust removal.. It appears i have slight blockage some where in the engin...

Re: 318/392 Stroker Motors

Installed a new engine circulation pump with no change. No engine hot spots and cool exhaust manifols. Clamped the short hose between the circulation pump and the engine and it cooled right down. So there is something keeping the water in the engine at the thermostat housing. It has the new thermost...

Re: 318/392 Stroker Motors

Tomorrow, new thermostat housing and new thermostat, will install a different washer/gasket on the sea strainer stud, check transmission oil cooler for a restriction, inspect all hoses. Will pull spark plugs to sure its not running lean (i doubt it).

Re: 318/392 Stroker Motors

I replaced the thermostat with a new 140 degree stat. In the process i found two impeller tips wedged in the two smaller holes of the housing. Lord knows how long they have been there. I thought that was the problem but nope. No change. The cast housing is very rusty, will replace it with the revise...

Re: 318/392 Stroker Motors

Disassembled the fresh water strainer, small o ring on the strainer bolt is in good shape. It appears the water is flowing through the system, questioning the engine circulator pump. The raw water pump hose appears to be in good shape, wire reinforced hose.

Re: 318/392 Stroker Motors

My port engine has a temperture spiking problem. We replaced the impeller but has not changed the problem. Its strange, cruising along at 1200rpm and all of a sudden the temperature spikes. Will replace the thermostat tomorrow and will check the strainer gaskets and intake hose and clamps. I flow lo...
