Re: trans noise

Not sure if Chryslers suffer the same issue, but the flywheel on GM engines sometimes crack around the bolt holes at the crankshaft, which causes a clunking noise in neutral.

Re: Oil leak without engine running?? Any ideas?

There are several factors, here are several scenarios. Crankcase may be overfilled and leaking past the rear of the oil pan. There are two different oil pans on Chryslers, one is the standard stamped steel pan, also used on Dodge trucks (not sure of the pan's capacity) and the cast aluminum pan (the...

Re: 360 valve cover gasket replacement

Never been a big fan of all of the wacky additives that are supposed to solve every engine ailment under the sun. Personally, as a professional mechanic, I never use them. I'd much rather fix the problem, as I've have seen many of these additives either 1) not fix the problem at all, 2)make it worse...

Re: Paint Stripper

I have, and the reason it's call aircraft stripper is because it's used on aircraft, obviously, and airplanes are made out of the same thing as Marinettes. Bubbles the paint right off and leaves the aluminum clean as new.

Re: Help with bottom paint prep

I was always told never use a wire brush on a Marinette, only 3M abrasives, like the little "Roll-Lock" discs that you can put on a drill. Antone ever heard the same?

Re: Question to owners about your 32' FB Sedan

Not to knock Marinette's best selling model, the 32' FB, if you haven't made a decision yet, don't rule out a 37' FB. There aren't as many of them out there, as most of them you will see in the 37', 39' and 41' are double cabin, but there were a few 37 and 39 open cockpits (mine is a 37' FB). The be...

Re: Stress cracks ???

That sounds like the most likely story, although I was thinking that it was left in the lake during the winter, the opposite of forgetting to pull the drain plugs while in drydock and water freezing inside the hull.

Re: Chrysler 360 will not start post degreasing...

Yes, that is the pick up coil, and yes, the 8 sided thing on the distributor shaft is the reluctor. This is what is referred to as a hall effect or inductive trigger switch. It produces a magnetic signal every time one of the 8 blades passes by. Steam cleaning the engine could very well cause a pick...

Re: Chrysler 360 will not start post degreasing...

Wow Carl, that's ugly. Can't remember what and/or if there is a marine specific module (unlike the ballast and other explosion proof electrical devices).

Re: Alternator / Ignition / Ballast resistor questions from a dummy

Here's some input/experience from my boat. My alternators were updated to the one wire type by the previous owner ( my boat has Chryslers in her). Worked flawlessly for five years now. Ask any hot-rodder/old car buff, the one-wire is the only way to go. I'm guessing that since you are asking about b...
