Re: Galvonic Isolator- Where and how is it connected?

Capac meter is correct. Sorry, was having a brain fart.

Does the meter need to have both a + and - hooked up? Mine did not and I think this is why it isn't working. But I didn't see another wire having around. Thought I would ask before I went looking.

Galvonic Isolator- Where and how is it connected?

My meter went south a few years ago. The other day I pulled it and found that only the + was connected. Is this correct? It has a place for the negative but it looks as if it has never been connected.

Do I need to find a loose wire somewhere?

Re: Do the Anodes have to be bolted to the hull or can they by glued?

My anodes are getting eaten up and there was still some pitting. I do Not want to drill through the hull to mount additional stuff near the props so I guess I will just replace what I can where it was originally placed.

Do the Anodes have to be bolted to the hull or can they by glued?

Does the sacrificial metal have to be bolted onto the hull? Or can I attach using some sort of adhesive?

I've been getting some pitting near my props and I was going to epoxy some strips near that area. Do they only work if grounded to the hull? Or do they function just be being there? :geek:

Re: Can I make a rudder using Aluminum?

The only boats I have ever seen with aluminum rudders are sailboats and kayaks. I would be willing to bet that a powerboat would bend the rudder stock over time from the prop wash if it was sized the same as a steel rudder. When I made my SS rudders, I used pieces from my old prop shafts for the st...

Can I make a rudder using Aluminum?

My 1975 37' Sedan has steel rudders. They are pitted badly and need to be replaced.

Some of the newer Marinettes had a stainless steel rod that was welded to a steel rudder. Some have 100% stainless steel rudders.

Can I make mine out of aluminum?

Re: 37 Sedan- Considering LARGER rudders, thoughts?

IF you build large rudders, which I think is a good idea, be sure to copy and enlarge the shape of the present ones. The amount of metal on each side of the post determines the balance and is CRITICAL to proper steering feel. Jeff Jeff, I am very glad that you remain active on this board. You alway...

Re: 37 Sedan- Considering LARGER rudders, thoughts?

First off, I can close my eyes and hear the sweet sound of those Cat V8s idling. Makes me smile. I bet they fire and idle quicker than you can let off the key. As far as the prop affecting steering, you would have to substantially increase diameter to affect steering. Almost to the point of longer ...

Re: Bow Hatch

All of this is great but what do you do on the nights that you are sleeping in the forward birthing area? Nothing like a solid drop of water on your forhead while trying to sleep. ;)

Re: 37 Sedan- Considering LARGER rudders, thoughts?

This subject opens a lot of interesting questions. Was she originally equipped with Cat's? Or was it repowered? If so, were the props specifically designed for the 3208's? Mine is a 37 Sedan with 360 Mopars, it steers beautifully at idle (both engines running) comes up on plane easily, and goes pre...
