Re: Bottom paint recommendation
Ask the previous owner what paint they used. Almost all boats need anti-fouling paint but less so in fresh water. Where are you boating? If you're lucky (and the PO can advise), you may just need light sanding and then overcoating with anti-fouling. Other nearby boaters or a marine store may be able...

Re: Pettit Hydrocoat - Copper Free
consider this for making paint decisions: get a small quantity of some brands you'd think about using. Paint a board of piece of aluminum with the various products keyed so you'll remember which is which and drop them overboard for a month or so you'll be able to compare results. I did this too many...

Re: Nightmare
Good thing you are insured -- your insurer's surveyor should have skill to track down cause and you'll both proceed from there. I agree hull itself not likely punctured but a fitting may have broken away. I had a severe ice encounter the first year of ownership. I was ill with pneumonia as a deep fr...

I can vouch for Plasteak. You won't regret the choice - it is easy to work with, cleans well and easily and just lasts and lasts!

Re: Interior wood
TReated how?Any wood painted or stained and covered in poly will hold up with, perhaps, annual touch up. But teak (which still needs annual loving) is the best because it's an oily wood and fends off moisture. Marinettes got exterior teak touches.
