Call a local shop that sells tropical fish supplies (or nose around - no pun intended- online) to see if they are carrying activated charcoal. It's used in fish tank filters and, very porous, it traps gas and odors. It's cheap and pretty effective. But no perfect- you have a big problem. We had rott...

This is where one of the greatest inventions of modern times, the smartphone, earns its keep. get some light down there (of course, not point at the camera), put the camera on a pole and shoot away. The detail on these pocket devices is amazing. good luck.

I know nothing about the motor is ques but the first owner of my 32 FBS with twin 318's stored a small area rug aboard that he placed atop the engine so he could rest on the engine to reach some otherwise out of reach parts such as an outboard spark plug and other items. One item I always suggest checking/replacing when engine "won't go over..." is the CG 11` filter found at the mouth of the carbs. If that little bugger clogs a little, the engines won't get enough fuel. Typically, though, it manifests itself as a coughing, chugging, stalling - not as you d...

A line from the fwd cleats to the hitch, will help prevent backwards slide but probably not much help for side to side motion.
