just recalled that another place to look for rotation is at the rear of the transm. There may be an arrow stamped there.

I hope this helps - if you can find the tag, the rotation is part of the serial number.

Inconsequential . In dampness, there's always some decay going on but it's tiny. There's no body of water through which the ions can travel to and fro.
Salty air, more but I assume that's not a worry for you.

My exterior application was to replace the teak on the bowsprit w/Plasteak. I bolted a one piece plastic underlayment (I think it was 1/4" thick) where the original teak ( cracking and in constant need of oiling or recoating with poly) was fastened. Then screwed Plasteak boards to the underlayment ...

That is gracious of you for taking up the chore as you heal (and I hope that goes well -- my own big thing is another knee replacement in two wls. First one last Jan went quite well and I'm hoping for similar outcome but there is no a guarantee. Ladders after a while are not a senior's best friend ...
