Re: Spacing between prop and rudder

My 32 has just enough room to sneak the prop off, if you tip it just right. That is original as far as I know. The 32 that I just re powered with 1.250 shafts was about the same. It had a little more room but only because the shafts were set up for castle nuts where mine are jam nuts. The castle nut...

Re: MY 1966 26 ft 327 fireball

Being that yours is flywheel forward there are two different water pumps. The impellers are the same (and same as the chryslers) but the actual pump casting is different from LH to RH rotation. I do have a few pumps but would need to know your engine rotation. Over their production, the rambler base...

Re: How do you make coffee at anchor?

I don't drink coffee, but my wife does. We don't have a generator either. We have a two burner propane stove and an old percolator. Wife says that makes the best coffee you can get.

Bolted, welded, or you could glue them only if you had a bonding wire connected from the anode to the hull/rudder/tab/etc. Bolting is easiest.

Re: Ceramic starter item

That is your ignition ballast resistor. You must have electronic ignition. Sierra p/n 18-5451

I think the automotive ones are the same.

Re: Can I make a rudder using Aluminum?

The only boats I have ever seen with aluminum rudders are sailboats and kayaks. I would be willing to bet that a powerboat would bend the rudder stock over time from the prop wash if it was sized the same as a steel rudder. When I made my SS rudders, I used pieces from my old prop shafts for the sto...

Re: Prop Shaft Seal question

You should only need the brand of seal and shaft diameter to order a replacement. Unless the hose/bellows needs to be replaced because of a tear. If my memory serves me right, the shaft log is 1.875" o.d.

Re: Bow Hatch

Something I have considered, since I will be pulling my hatch out and blasting it, is to have the underside sprayed with a thin layer of closed cell foam, or urethane (think truck bed liner). I think the foam would work best and could be shaved down and painted to the point that it may only be notic...

Re: 37 Sedan- Considering LARGER rudders, thoughts?

First off, I can close my eyes and hear the sweet sound of those Cat V8s idling. Makes me smile. I bet they fire and idle quicker than you can let off the key. As far as the prop affecting steering, you would have to substantially increase diameter to affect steering. Almost to the point of longer s...

Re: 37 Sedan- Considering LARGER rudders, thoughts?

There are at least 4 boats (not Marinettes) at my marina that have rudder extensions on them for just that reason. My suggestion is look at other boats in your size range with similar draft, deadrise and prop size and see what size rudders they run. You may be surprised what you find. It has always ...
