Re: Prop size and operating RPM for 318 Chrysler engines

I think somebody made a suggestion based on 1:1 gears and I am gessing you have reduction gears. Way too small of a prop. If you go down in diameter then you must increase pitch. 16x15 is the factory size for a 32 with twin 318s and 1.52:1 ratio. 14x10 for 1:1 3 blade for both. 14" is the small...

Re: Dual pocket water pump plumbing.

Check the top of the trans cooler. All the rust particles from the exhaust manifolds tend to collect there.

Re: Dual pocket water pump plumbing.

The sea water intake hose should go to the bottom of the rear pocket. The top of the rear pocket discharges into a tee that feeds into the front of each exhaust manifold. The fittings on the bottom of the aft end of the exhaust manifolds discharge to a tee, through the trans cooler, and through a 1&...

Re: Broken valve new engine

I can't see clearly in your picture, but it looks like the notches on the tops of your pistons (not the valve reliefs, but the small notch to show installation direction) are facing the front of the engine. If they are, the rebuilder installed the pistons backwards.

Re: Broken valve new engine

Looking at your picture, I think you need to measure the diameter of your push rods. If they are bigger than 5/16" diameter (.290" is factory), then that is most likely the cause. Some rebuilders like to put 3/8" diameter push rods in rebuilds, and what happened to yours is usually th...

Re: Broken valve new engine

Did the valve break, or did the retainer loosen up. I have never heard of a valve breaking and not dropping. Either way, there is likely work that will need to be done on the head. The seat will more than likely have damage.

Re: Lasdrop shaft seal leak

Every now and then I see this happen because the shaft coupling isn't tight enough on the shaft. Someone will install the new shaft seal system, set the preload on the bellows, and away they go. If the don't get the locking bolts tight enough on the coupling, or don't recheck them after the first fe...

Re: One wire alternator

I think you have a defective regulator. I worked at a starter/alternator shop for five years. We built many different custom 1 wire alternators and I have never seen one have to get excited to work, with one exception: some battery isolators will screw with a one wire alternator. The only piece of c...
