Re: water hose

Can I assume that since your boat is a '90 then you have Crusader engines? If so then you should have 1 1/4" hardwall water hose (has wire embedded in the rubber). You will have to remove and measure for new since it is sold by the foot. This may offer the opportunity to lengthen or shorten as ...

Re: Wear - Shaft

You are going to have some wear and that is normal. A normal wear is a very shinny area with smooth transition into the shaft area outside the bearing. You may feel some smooth grooves in the shaft, but as long as you can't hook your fingernail in them you are generally ok. The most accurate and uns...

Re: Oil pump torque?

Go by the book. 35lbs sounds right. I have never seen an oil pump come loose, ever.

Re: reverse rotation engines

Distributor/oil pump drive shaft and gear is a separate part from the distributor that fits down in engine block. Distributors are identical and interchangeable. The drive gears are machined with opposite helix to give reverse rotation to crank and cam while retaining clockwise distributor rotation.

Re: Need a strut

Last Question - Looks like the hole coming into the boat for the shaft, don't know the technical term for it, is about 1 1/2 inches I.D. That does not leave a lot of room for a 1 1/4 shaft. Any issues running a larger shaft through there? Want to go from 1 to 1 1/4 to run a larger prop. The rule of...

Re: Need a strut

I had to make my own. I do have the jig that I used. If you have the ability, or know a good welding shop, you are welcome to use it. Just cover shipping to and from. You will have to check a few dimensions to be sure it is the same. I have a good welding shop in Michigan I use that could probably m...

Re: Soda blasting vs. Glass Beads

This water blasting is becoming very popular, and for good reasons. The first time I saw this was a contractor out of Ohio blasting and painting locomotives for G&W railroads around Michigan. Last fall I was working on a lift at a marina in west michigan. A contractor was water blasting the bott...

Re: Oil Pump for 318

I will second the advice on the standard pump. The high volume will only bypass the filter when cold and cause oil leaks when warm.

Just make sure you clean out the pickup tube and suction screen well. Many a new engine has met an early death from dirty suction screen.
