Re: Starter

Check the flywheel ring gear. I have seen 5 come loose in the last 2 years on chryslers. There should be no gap between the gear and the flywheel.

Re: Starter

The original Prestolite starters have to be rebuilt. I believe Arco makes a new version of the Delco starter. I also believe there is a pmgr (gear reduction) available. I will see if i still have the part numbers.

Re: Oil Leakage

If your fuel pump is covered in oil, check the small hole just in front of it on the block (facing forward and up). This is where the dipstick tube for i/o marine and auto aplications goes. There should be a plug in this hole. Most rebuilders forget to put the plug in.

Is your engine flywheel forward or flywheel aft? Do you need the stick, tube or both?

Re: 62 40 ft ?

Maybe it is not 468hp, but a chevy 468 v8? Very common for people to confuse hp and displacement.

Re: 1988 lm318 carburetor

I will second what Jeff said. I have worked on many boats that people installed Edelbrock intakes on, only to dump water in the oil a year or so later.

Re: 1988 lm318 carburetor

Interesting post. As a former GM mechanic, and all around GM enthusiast, the Chrysler engines with Quadrajets always intrigued me. I rebuilt my Carter carbs last year, and they run fine, but the idea of switching carbs has been in the back of my mind. Are the 318 and 360 intakes the same? Anyone ha...

Re: dip stick for 318

The steel pan marine engines were used on i/o, jet, and bobtail installs. They use the truck pan (with an added bracket welded on the front) and use the same dipstick as most trucks. The standard inboard install uses the cast aluminum pan with its own unique dipstick and tube. I may have a dipstick ...

Re: Nautolex - Original White w/Charcoal Stripes

I would have, but had to go a different route. I think you guys need to do some polling around the country. There is alot of older boats being restored right now. Just this winter I saw 3 different boats getting new flooring. The one, a Bertram, the owner spent most of the winter carefully peeling t...

Re: Strange Marinette?

So would this have been back in the 50s? 60s?

Looks like someone is fixing her up. I may stop by and chat with them sometime.
