Re: Gray marine 401 engine

Believe it or not, Barr still makes manifolds the last time I checked. They were 280hp. Gray marine did marinize the 225 and the aluminum 300 cids.

Re: 2 standard rotation engines?

The down angle transmissions are all reductions. ZF does make a copy for a velvet driver cast iron 1:1 in aluminum, but the same principles still apply.

Re: 2 standard rotation engines?

You could if you switch to a ZF or Velvet Drive 5000 or Liberty series. Those transmissions use LH rotation inputs and can output LH or RH without an issue.

Re: 318 timing chain tensioner

FYI, tensioners do not work with double roller bicycle style chains. It will self destruct!

Re: Transmission: Velvet-drive or others?

The 72C or 10-18 is about 3/4" of an inch longer. The interchange other than the length. You'd have to check your prop shaft length as I've seen issues on some boats when switching to a 72C that the rudder hits the prop on sharp turns. To clarify on reversing rotation re-clocking the pump is on...

Re: solenoid

The automotive solenoids do not have a long enough bracket to use both mounting bolts. Other than that they work just fine and are safe to use.

Re: EFI Repower

Zirconia O2 sensors are only used for effective use of the catalyst. If working properly the pre catalyst O2's "switch" constantly from lean to rich and rich to lean. Wide band sensors found in newer cars and racing applications have a much wider accurate range of air fuel ratios from abou...

Re: EFI Repower

Marine engines are open loop (don't use O2 sensors) that are not catalyst equipped. New inboard and I/O boats from 2011 on have Catalysts. The main purpose of traditional Zirconia O2 sensors are for effective use of the Catalyst. My suggestion is if you are leaning to go EFI buy a complete engine wi...

Re: 440 oil pump prime

Sometimes cracking the oil filter loose with the engine running will do the trick. It helps to vary RPM slightly. If that does work be prepared for a mess when the oil pump picks up prime as it will squirt oil everywhere. Be careful and don't run the engine too long. If that doesn't work then prime ...
