Re: Broken steering cable
Thanks Busia. At last a tiny ray of hope! What is Steermaster? Is my cable a Steermaster cable? I assumed the M0646 meant "Morse." Which Teleflex cable worked for you? In the online pictures, the Teleflex cable has a small eye on the rudder end. How do I get from that to the 1/2" diam...

Re: Broken steering cable
Is it possible to go hydraulic on the lower steering station and stay mechanical on the upper steering station? Who makes the conversion kit?

Broken steering cable
This old boat has been sorely neglected. The threaded stud on the rudder end of the lower helm steering cable snapped because the clevis (threaded yoke) was rust frozen to the rudder control lever and wouldn't articulate. The push-pull cable (Morse?) bears the number M0646 on the rotary spool end. T...

Re: keel fin
I think the "boatyard guy" who, by the way has fully restored a Marinette before and reads this forum, really likes to weld. But, the yard is so busy that he hasn't gotten around to re-welding the keel fin. The old boat needs so much work that it is almost overwhelming. I'm one week into a...

Re: keel fin
The yard guy here in Rockport insists that the keel fin should be seam welded back in place to prevent electrolysis from attacking the hull in the poorly insulated spaces between the welds and that the sacrificial aluminum anodes should be welded to the fin or the bottom of the hull to insure good c...

Re: keel fin
Roger. Nuff said. The fin stays with aluminum anodes and SS bolts. Thanks guys.

Re: keel fin
No pics at this time. Joels picture shows the fin that my boat has. I'm now convinced it is factory. Yes, the anodes are bolted to it. It is going into very warm salt water. But, the boatyard guy, who has restored a Marinette before, advocates deleting the fin, welding six aluminum plates to the bot...

Transport nightmare
First let me say many thanks to those who offered tips and advise on removing the fly-bridge, controls, wiring, railings etc. to meet the 13'-6" (on board) transport clearance requirement. I went to Edgewater MD and prepped the boat myself. This forum is a God send and, as I gain experience, I ...

Bow thruster
I want to install a bow thruster on my 39' FB sedan but am very hesitant about installing an FRP tunnel in an aluminum hull because of potential un-bonding problems. Is it possible to mate a Lewmar bow thruster, for example, to an aluminum tunnel tube? Also, being somewhat lighter and shallower draf...
