Re: whistle noise when shifting in gear
update..... with engines off, transmissions in neutral, I can grab one shaft and rotate it easily. The other one has resistance, and a 'squishing' noise. I have to use a screwdriver levering the bolts to rotate it. Could there be something stuck in the shaft log?, could poor shaft alignment cause th...

Re: New member with questions, Sedan 32
If you run A/C, on the hook, you will need a big generator. I took mine out because it was too problematic, difficult to service, and made servicing the twin 318's difficult. (ONan 6.5K) My age (70) means being a contortionist to work on engines is not good. I carry around my Honda 2000 generator. I...

Re: whistle noise when shifting in gear
The PO, who was a motor guy, (now deceased), left some ATF+4 synthetic transmission fluid on the boat. Somewhere I thought I read that Chrysler transmissions use that. So that's what I put in the things. Now I see Dextron III should have been what is used. Does it matter? I obviously am not a 'motor...

Re: whistle noise when shifting in gear
thanks for thoughts. I plan on checking the trans fluid stuff again today. As far as the fuel issues, I haven't done anything to that stuff, but then why would it only 'whistle' when in gear? Out of gear, the noise quits. Engines start easy and idle nicely, so I assumed the carbs, filters, fuel pump...

whistle noise when shifting in gear
Both engines, Velvet drives, a bit of time after changing transmission fluid, developed a whistle like noise when engaged in forward. I repacked the stuffing box, thinking it was that, but it didn't change it. I checked the fluid in transmission. I looked too full, so I took some out and it did not ...

Re: rust discharge from one engine
Good thoughts, thanks,
They are raw water cooled. In brackish water this past one year. In freshwater the rest of it's prior life. I did install flushouts and use them every time the boat is returned to dock to make sure freshwater is in the system. Temp and oil have been OK so far.

rust discharge from one engine
One of my twin 318's has a very strong rust discharge when starting it. The other one does not. After a minute or so, it clears up. The engines have about 1900 hours on them and seem to run good and smooth. Is this discharge a problem? What could it be from? Thanks in advance for any answers. Capn G...

Re: Alcohol / Electric Stove
I had a Kenyon butane single burner stove on a Macgregor that worked great. Then I bought a portable one. 1 burner. Now when we make coffee, need a frying pan, etc, when on anchor, we use that. The 2 burner stove on the 32' M uses a lot of electric, like a microwave. The alcohol portion of that, wor...
