Re: Bent Rudder shafts?

Hi, I had new stainless rudders fabricated 20 years ago with the help of several local small companies, bought sheet steel and rods at Speedy Metal, they sent me to water jet cutter shop to cut plate, then went to small machine shop that milled stainless steel rod stock to match old rudder, then sto...

Re: Sealant/filler between cabin roof and windshield:

Hi, I use Solar Seal 900. WONDERFUL stuff, stays pliable almost forever. I use it for all sorts of bedding, sealing and gap filling. Maintains adhesion and pliability. Put a new seal around front deck hatch years ago and no more leaks! Look it up, comes in lots of colors. I get mine at roofing, sidi...

Re: whistle noise when shifting in gear

Actually went as far as making a contact to a fellow in Michigan that services the Borg Warner and has the dynamometer, he was he...

Re: whistle noise when shifting in gear

Exactly the same with my vessel. No noise in idle, no noise while under way, engines (around 1200 hrs) start and perform fine and fuel flow sensors show about same usage each engine at various RPM. thinking it may just be a fuel flow issue at the low RPMs, like a wind instrument only whistles at the...

Re: whistle noise when shifting in gear

hi, I have a noise that has similar symptom. It only comes from her starboard engine. I have had a mechanic on board in the bilge while I idled around the waterway. He could not isolate the origin of the sound. I too have thought tranny and packing and strut bearing: all received new fluid or replac...

Re: Shaft Stuffing Box hose size and source.

Yes on the dimensions ID and OD. When I ordered mine I purchased a one foot section and have a piece left over that I pulled out of storage to give you the measures. i had the boat yard make cuts to my needed length. You can validate length prior to ordering the 80ho225, or get a one footer and make...

Re: Shaft Stuffing Box hose size and source.

Hi did this chore a few years ago on my 1990 32' Express.

Look at Buck Algonquin tem # 80ho225.

As i recall, lots of KY Jell (yes) was needed to get packing box with tube onto the shaft housing.

Re: Hull Anodes

My annual Anode maintenance here on Lake Michigan is removal from keel, trim tabs and prop shafts. The bedding areas are all cleaned with a fine emery scotchbrite flapper wheel to remove the white deposits and provide a clean surface. The anodes are cleaned, with a belt sander held in a vise, to rem...
