You would need a 20-25 hp kicker to be able to move the boat 6-8 mph. It would use less fuel than the v8's, but that little motor would be screaming away and probably get annoying after a little bit.
Like other have said, there are many ways that one can check what the rotation is, with the easiest being, just cranking it over. Rockxx, rh rotation is not standard, it is opposite rotation.

It is also possible that someone could have two of the same direction engines and full reversing transmissions, i.e. zf hurth transmissions. Meaning that the transmissions can take full power all day long in either direction. I do not know if there is a velvet drive that does that.

My only question about Marelon, Is it impact resistant? Can it handle a direct hit from say a log while on plane? That is the only thing that I have worried about.
