Re: 1978 37 Express - CL

You can make the trip by water--loopers make their way through the lakes down the Chicago sanitary canal and into the Mississippi watershed. You'd have to do the calculations, but could also go the other way, through the canals and down the Hudson. It would be far cheaper and faster to ship the boat...

Absolutely would sell everything and move aboard. Down the Ohio and on to the Great Loop!

The Admiral would never go for it, but a guy can dream.

Re: Number of Boats' built ?

John Althouse may have production numbers. I remember reading an article someplace that there were over 5000 built. As many of you know, the company was bought by a houseboat outfit that moved production to Tennessee--one of those bean counter moves to consolidate production. The story I got from Jo...

Ah but what does "rebuilt" mean? The person listing the boat may have a vastly different definition than the rest of us.

That said, I always liked the looks of the 37 sedan and with 440s she should move.

Re: Before and After Topside Color Scheme

And from having a boat with a dark blue hull, I can tell you that you can see every scrape and ding. Sure you can touch up the paint, but it's obvious. (At least to me. Everyone else thought it looked great.) I also buffed out the finish every fall and followed up with a wax job in the spring. Good ...

Re: What's in a Boat's Name?

We had a time when we bought the 28. My secretary finally asked if there was some Italian word and that did it:
Innamorata
.

It confuses people until the look it up on their smartphones. . .

Re: Prepping for Topside Restoration and Paint.

I've been there. As you know, it's much easier to do the work with the boat in the water: it is back-breaking to go up and down a ladder carrying stuff. One day someone stopped me and said he heard I was seen walking down the dock with the kitchen sink. (Actually the whole countertop.) I confirmed t...

Re: Bow thruster

You might want to ask Lewmar. Personally I'd check with a couple of suppliers to decide who was making the most sense.

Good luck.
