Re: Gas caps

As I recall, they use a special thread as well.

You might have to replace the entire assembly.

Re: 318 oil pressure fluctuation

I had bad luck with the oil pressure switches--had to replace one a year for a while. Not sure why. Note: Everyone with a Chrysler small block needs to keep an eye on that tiny tube going from the motor to the block with the oil switch and sensor. They tend to leak, and in a place where you can easi...

Re: Hurricane prep?

Spent the night on mine, at the slip, during a hurricane. Wasn't too bad until the power went out. Then it got a bit scary!

Re: Fuel Filter

That Perko STRAINER (not filter) element is good virtually forever; just pull it and clean it every decade or so. Here's the deal: You want a coarse (about 30 micron) strainer ahead of the fuel pump, to protect it. But you want a fine (about 10 micron) filter after the pump to keep crap out of the c...

Re: 440 oil pump prime

Even with a drill, they might not prime without packing the pump with vasoline.

Re: Hurricane prep?

Gotta be really careful storing the boat on land. Unless the marina has really high ground, the boat can float off the blocks and be wrecked (or other boats can damage yours). Leaving her in the water connected to a floating dock is the worst approach! In Isobel, the floating docks at my old marina ...

Re: Need a pair of 318's

Fine, but remember what I said about transportation costs! Having them shipped any distance will be very expensive.

Re: 318 oil pressure fluctuation

It could also be a bad connection (ground or sensed wire). That said, you definitively want to put a mechanical gage on it to be sure!

Of course, the electrical gage will behave itself when you do but...

Re: 440 oil pump prime

That motor has this loooong oil intake tube from the oil pan that has to be full of oil before it will develop any pressure. The old Buick V-6s and V-8s have a similar system, and similar problems on cold starting. The classic solution is to pack the oil pump with Vaseline and drill spin the pump un...

Re: YouTube Video Series Aluminum Strut Fabrication

I "mentioned" that to him.

Here's what happens when one doesn't use a non-metallic cutlass bearing.
