Re: Getting ready to blast

I was looking for Sherwin-Williams dual Etch to etch the hull prior to painting and had a hard time finding it. A local auto parts place was able to find me an equivalent product - it's called Chem-Fil DX-533 Aluminum Cleaner. Basically the same ingredients as the Sherwin Williams. However, when I r...

Re: Hull plugs

If your 28' has not been modified by a previous owner...it should have a single drain plug in the forward bilge just aft of the v-berth. This is the lowest part of the boat when it's floating. Paranoid as I am, I'd take a close look at every part of the bilge that you can get to (including engine ro...

Re: New owner/member of 26'

Welcome...very cool that you have a 26'...have always liked the look of them. What kind of engine does it have?

No idea how many were made, but they do seem to be more rare than the rest of the boats.

Getting ready to blast

Getting ready to have the bottom of the hull hydro-blasted. I know the paint needs to go on ASAP after blasting...but the guy thinks it could take up to 4-5 hours to do the whole job. For those who have done this, what kind of "working time" do I have with the aluminum before has sat expos...

Re: Packing box "wobbling" at low RPMs

Roger...thanks for your insight. Much appreciated.

I have never noticed the transmission slip while in gear - so that's good.

When I remove the coupling bolts, the prop shaft flange rests a tiny bit lower than the transmission flange. Not sure if this means I have an alignment problem.

Re: Packing box "wobbling" at low RPMs

Another factor to add to the mystery - I know my transmission is wearing out. The shaft turns very slowly even when in neutral. I have adjusted the linkage many times with no effect. According to the manual the problem is most likely worn clutch plates. Not sure if a transmission problem such as tha...

Re: Packing box "wobbling" at low RPMs

Getting the prop fixed up helped this issue, but a slight wobble at the packing box is still present.

I had two different mechanics watch the packing box while in gear - neither seemed to think it was that big of a deal.

May be taking it to someone for a third opinion this season...will update.

Re: Ripping Audio CDs

Some newer CDs are actually protected so you can't rip their content. If you have a buddy who is good with computers he might be able to find a way around it.
