New V-Berth Mattress

I need a new V-Berth Mattress for my 32'. I bought some material but I think I will ditch most of it and go in a different direction. I found some posts where persons have cut down regular rectangular mattresses into a V-berth shape. One guy reshaped a pair of innerspring mattresses. The results wer...

Re: Battery group/size? 1978 28 express

Menard's has a $69 spring sale of Exide 27's. I got a pair for $110 with $10 rebate and two $9 trades. Walmart also has a sales. Seems like once a couple of palettes are gone that's it.

Re: Cosmetic hole plugs.

Rivet caps for old screw holes. Paint over or use stainless ones. Just glue them in.

Re: method for cutting new plywood deck?

The reason 5/8" plywood with real exterior glue is hard to find is it is no longer the standard for roofing. They use oriented strand board now. They are even trying to get away with 1/2" inch stock. $200 bucks for that 10 ft piece seems way high, must be marine. 5/8" will fit under t...

Re: method for cutting new plywood deck?

I used the same screws and washers where I could easily reach the work. I used a unique system for the hard to reach corners where the scuppers are. The scuppers are like old fashioned shower drains, They are attached from the bottom by a big washer followed by a big nut that clamps the drain down f...

Re: method for cutting new plywood deck?

I ordered plywood with real exterior glue. Only difference was marine plywood has no voids son you can bend it. Decks don't need to be bent. Careful, real exterior glue is hard to find nowadays. So is 5/8" which you need for the deck. Don't mess with 3/4" you will have fitting issues. I ha...

Re: Fuel gauge sending unit

Your 1986 will take a standard 5 hole mounting plate. I just looked around the web. It looks like Moeller brand is one of the last left standing. Jamestown Distributors has very thorough step by step instructions on installation. There are two basic types types of senders. The most common uses a flo...

Re: Battery old? replace it.

All batteries fail. Menards has a spring sale on marine batteries. They also offer a battery tester I am going to buy today. One of my two boat batteries won't go into float mode. The two in my diesel truck won't start the engine in this cold weather unless I keep the block heater hooked up. The bat...

Re: Bottom Paint advice

I used Shelter Island copper free bottom paint from Bluewater Marine paints. Good on aluminum boats. Going into third season. Not worth the effort to touch up yet.
