We bought a Coleman 13,000 BTU unit used for RVs. Fits the existing roof opening. A bit weak but good enough.

Right on. A larger engine--with the proper prop (more pitch)--will give better gas mileage at cruising speed. Seen this many times (in comparative boat tests with different engine options) I don't doubt it. At WOT throttle, of course, the larger engine eats more fuel, but that is not the normal mode...

Good but dumb motor; it is the same size and weight of a 350, but with a lot less power. Why bother?
