SOME tachs have an adjustment in the back for the number of cylinders, 2 vs. 4 stroke, etc. IF yours has this, use a small screw driver to push IN then turn the adjustment back and forth a few times to clean the contacts.

Good point, but I believe that the 'wine cellar' area (where mine was located) does not require ignition protected devices--it's on the other side of the firewall. Max rpm does not need to exceed 4,500.
A good cruising rpm for singles is about 3,200; for twins 2,500 was best on my 32 footer (for gas mileage).

I installed a 6 gallon residential unit in mine. Worked fine, but the inlet/ outlet connections were on the top, which made draining it for winter a b*tch.
