Re: A little crazy?
Looking good, but you must install some substantial 'knees' to brace the transom to the keel (and in at least four places). The twisting down force load on the transom from those huge motors is significant! Example: One of tests I use to determine if an I/O boat's transom is rotted is to stand on th...

Wild!
I hope you're reinforcing the hell out of the transom to take the huge bending loads from those outdrives....
Of course, you are!
Great project!

Re: A little crazy?
You're really doing it! Lots of people talk a big project but... Like I said, if I lived near you I'd be there to help out. Jeff PS: I just occurred to me that you might be able to mount the engines where the 360s are and use long driveshafts. I seem to recall that being done on race boats (with 3 a...

Re: Coupler Alignment - Vibration
If you run it so slow that you're not getting vibration it might be okay.
Personally, I would run that motor only to get in and out of the slip. My old 32 footer worked fine on one motor.
Jeff
PS: It would be hard to rotate the prop for dial indicating with the boat in the water!

Re: Coupler Alignment - Vibration
If the coupler flange/ flanges run out it's impossible to align the coupling. So how can you determine if this is the problem? It's not easy, but it can be done. For the trans side: Mount a dial indicator on trans and spin the coupling over. It should be okay since it's precision machined, but it CO...

Re: 454 Crusader - milky oil
If it ran "okay" for nine hours the block is not cracked. (If it was, you would not have made it out of the slip.) Chevy 454s are famous for sucking in water through the exhaust ports. It's possible some got in that way, dripped by the rings and contaminated the oil. Not much you cna do ab...

Re: Chrysler 318/360 oil pressure switches
If you go with a one wire alternator, the regulator is no longer needed-- just wire the red wirer right to the battery. That regulator's hot-in-run circuit wire can be used for many purposes. I used it on mine to turn on a relay that allowed ne to run only one motor without the low oil pressure alar...

Re: Chrysler 318/360 oil pressure switches
That's what we used to call an 'Idiot light'. (Actually, it's good idea to have a red light come on if the oil pressure suddenly drops and your eye isn't on the pressure gage.) I too had them fail on mine, but not leaking, just giving me false a low oil pressure reading when that wasn't the case. Re...

My wife---the "Admiral"--hated making the berth up. That B-floor plan setup would have been far easier.

As I recall, the rudders should toe in about 1/2 inch.
