Re: Engine oil

Or a zinc supplement--no? My buddies in the antique car world use them. There are several to choose from in the parts store---OOPS for the crankcase not you!

Re: Althouse back yet?

I've seen dripless stuffing boxes. The reason we want the stuffing box to leak a little is to make sure the packing material is wet so it does not become damaged due to heat from friction--the shaft too. (I've heard people claim their stuffing box never leaks and they have no problems etc. My bet is...

Re: new strut

When I had to replace mine, I bought it from John Althouse--he had the original jigs. Maybe if you phoned and could talk with his dad you might get some help.

Good luck,

Re: Chrysler 440 haul out HELP!!

If you have a sedan would it work to use a forklift with really long tines and chains? Not that I know anything at all having never attempted anything like that.

Good luck.

Re: speed of a 37 with twin 440's

Pretty good when you consider that not too many plastic boats that size could do 28 mph without big thirsty diesels.

Re: Hull design

Really? They increased the transom deadrise on the 32s? My 28 can be a handful if she takes a towboat wake the wrong way. (The commercial kind that make 3-4' wakes, not the ones used to pull skiers.) Maybe it's time to move up to a newer 32. . . .

Re: Removing the factory cabin vinyl from old wood panels

I used Pollywall to replace the panels in the cockpit and headliner on the hardtop. The 1/4" stuff is much stiffer than plywood and was a challenge to work with though it did end up looking pretty good. I wonder now if painted aluminum panels might be the way to go. Good luck with your project....

Makes you wonder what the next advance will be. Maybe thorium propulsion . . .

Re: Thruster, Diver Dave?

One day last summer I helped a very nice family get underway and started to push the bow out and they said don't bother, I have Axius and I can make this boat go sideways. I can make my 28 go sideways too: one night I landed about four feet parallel to the dock and didn't want to go round again. The...

Re: Ohio River Rendezvous idea

The best one in my opinion is ours--Bridgewater Landings--but Mike usually has a waiting list. His phone number is 724-728-2880. We are just a few minutes from the Ohio. River Harbor is also nice: http://riverharbormarina.com and has a fuel dock. There is a restaurant, a bar, an old fashioned drive ...
