Re: Distributor rebuild

I fixed my old distributors at very low cost. I wrote a big article on it which is gone to old postings heaven. I fixed it by replacing the rusted out lightweight throw out timing weight springs. I used a fish scale so I could measure the retracted tension (1.5 lbs) and the extended tension (3lbs). ...

Re: Fuel Gauge

I replaced my "button gauge" on top of my 1980 tank. It has been so long ago I can't remember all the details. I do remember that the tank opening was not the new standard and was closed by a plate with four heavy bolts that were tough to remove. I can't remember if I found and replaced th...

Re: Old gas

There should not be an ethanol problem because it should not be used in your boat, small engines or collector cars. My marina supplies ethanol free mid range gasoline which works well in the Marinette. I will top it off with High Test before I store it. My Ford sedan gets a lot of use with regular e...

Re: Old gas

My 1988 project boat is was full of years old gas. I started a siphon from the fuel pump cutoff to the bottom drain plug. The tanks were quickly emptied and a guy who used waste oil and gas for heating was happy to haul it away. Before I took the boat out I wanted to see what was going to go into my ...

Re: Prepping for Topside Restoration and Paint.

Your yard mechanic will use any old screw he dug out of the bottom of his tool box. You should keep a supply of new #8 and #10 stainless screews and only move up when you have to. Also use Tef-gel.

Re: Aft Deck Restoration

Cut new plywood decking from 5/8" exterior plywood. Had a pickup bed sprayer spray and underlap the bottom side by 6". Replaced the big washer on the cockpit drains with a big 1/4" aluminium flage that fits under the corner side walls. Tighten the cockpit drain nut and the deck is tig...

Re: Marinette purchase advice

Are any of the windows cracked? Are all the cushions and V=berth there? Are all the screens in place. Do any high dollar extras like radar and autopilot come with the boat? How about splash guards. bimini, bumper baskets. anchor winch. What does the capac say? A very big deal is paint. A professonal...

Re: Wanted Trailer for 28 Sportsman Twin

I got two used trailers both needed a lot of work which meant a big hassle for me. I still will need 10 new tires in the next couple of years. Check out new if you need a trailer to manage your boat. My best trailer is a slideon which was worth restoring. The other was a cheap but a piece of crap. h...

Re: Poly Glide Replacement - More On Order!

Interstate Plastics sent me an email saying they didn't have the 2 rolls I ordered. Changed it to two rolls of non-adhesive .062" x .75" x 50'.

Re: Poly Glide Replacement - More On Order!

I can't wait. I need to install 2 windows on my 32' and 4 on my 28'. I looked all over the net for the right sizes.. This is the closest I could find. I ordered DURASUEF from Interstate Plastics. It has adhesive which I didn't want. I will have to leave the paper covering it up or use my 3M adhesive...
