Re: Seacock Replacement
Mine was a 1.25inch thread size seacock on this chart: http://catalog.buckalgonquin.com/viewitems/ball-type-seacocks/bronze-ball-type-seacocks I would bet yours is the same or a 1 inch. At first I accidentally ordered a 1.5 inch and that was gigantic. Most seacocks and marine thru-hull fittings are ...

Re: Heads for a 318
Might be worth giving these guys a call http://www.dougrussell.com/engines-ster ... inder-head
They list the marine 318 head on the website but it seems a little vague about whether or not they have it in stock.

Re: how hot does your exhaust manifolds get on a 440
Ironically, I was planning on bringing a laser temp gun on the boat this weekend to check a few things. I will report back my findings. Whether going fast or slow I can always hold my hand on the manifolds for 2 seconds or so. The elbows and hoses are quite noticeably hotter which I may need to look...

Re: Capac is all over the place
My prop shaft is isolated from the hull with a Globe Drive Saver. The shaft also has an anode on it, just because I am paranoid. It's $7 peace of mind. I have also isolated the rudder. I used a combination of nylon washers and heat shrink tubing on the rudder linkage components. The rudder also has ...

Capac is all over the place
I have noticed a lot of variance in my Capac readings this season. My anode setup is exactly as Marinette recommends for a 28' single screw. I polish the anodes at the beginning of each season to remove all the junk. It seems in shallow/warm/dirty water the Capac reads as low as .8 When I move to de...
Re: Dri-Dek
Thanks for the info guys! I'm looking for lower cost (can I even use that term regarding a boat?) deck coating options. I re-did my cockpit deck a little over a year ago. It had all the issues common to aging BigM cockpit decks. Replaced with new marine plywood and coated it with a product called Ov...
Dri-Dek
Anyone have Dri-dek on their ? If so, what do you think of it?

Re: Sunken 32`
If your rudder blade is basically OK and it's just the shaft that is bent, a local machine shop could slice out the old shaft and weld a new one in for cheap. I did this about 3 years ago. The rudder was not bent, but I found out the shaft was extremely corroded. There's also a BigM rudder for sale ...

Re: Alternator
There is probably an easier way to test this, but to be absolutely sure about the alternator you could pull it off and take it to an auto electric shop for a bench test. Or, you could swap in the voltage regulator from your engine that IS charging and see if that does anything. It is pretty easy to ...

Re: Looking for a Sportsman
Bob, there have been many discussions about repowering BigM s with diesel but it seems few have actually gone that route. If you have time to make a post with some details about your setup, I'm sure many people here would be very interested. Things like propeller size/pitch, prop shaft diameter, wha...
