Re: Propeller purchasing - comments on...

Note to all... While foraging through the myriad number of computer files I keep, I stumbled across the original propeller sizes for our boats. I've attached it and all welcome to it. ( I shudda known I had it. I keep everything I think is worthwhile... ... which is why getting into the garage is su...

Re: trim tabs

Just thinking out loud here... If the tabs both were retracting when under way, then the pressure of water passing against them is the cause of the retraction. The fault would be a valve within the pump or a seal that's allowing the now "underway" pressure to allow fluid to flow back into ...

Re: Anode advice

John, It is possible to have too much anode protection. I'd recommend going with the specs from BoatZincs.com. Also, I have 36" on the keel of my boat (1 36" on each side). I've attached them with 4 SS bolts, washers and lock nuts. There's no way to keep the 2 surfaces from collecting a la...

Jeff, Checking last nite's lottery tickets. If there's a winner, watch your mailbox... :-D Seriously, though the information you, and others (including "newbies"!), provide is ESSENTIAL in establishing/maintaining a knowledge base for our Big M's! I hope I'm able to "pay it forward&qu...

Re: Hull Preparation & Painting

Sure, you can use the Interprotect on the trim tabs. That's exactly what I did. I don't see why you couldn't also use it on the rudder, though I leave mine unpainted. The ablative effect of water running across the tabs will wear the bottom paint away a bit faster, but if you pull your boat every ye...

Re: Number of Boats' built ?

One other note on the demise of the Marinette brand. The company originally was making airplanes during WWII. Once the war ended, the factory at Standiford field in Louisville (a hanger) was converted to building Big M's. Eventually, Standiford expanded and the company was going to be booted from th...

Re: Hull Preparation & Painting

John, For the scrape... I'd get a quart (smallest amount I've seen for purchase) of Interlux's Interprotect 2000E. This is a 2 part epoxy primer. You'll need to get the primer first, then sand down to bright metal. Even if you've previously sanded the scrape down, you'll need to lightly resand it. T...

Re: Battery ground to hull?

Quick note for those who's Capac systems are on the defunct side :-\ ..... Fast Jeff's notation on how to make a Capac test meter system lists a 70.00 cost (and Barkley Dave answered the unspoken question of "where to get the probe" immediately afterwards. :-) ) Boat Zincs does carry the C...

Re: Propeller purchasing - comments on...

Jeff, Ok... to paraphrase... :-) "Inquiring minds would (really!!!) like to know..." What was the size of the "over pitched" props you used. And knowing you, these were intended to get the most bang for the buck (ie. gas mileage/gph)? The current price of gas isn't gonna stay as ...
