Re: Exhaust Surges
You are on the right track with the strainer and impeller, but you might want to check to make sure the hose from the oil cooler to the water pump is reinforced hose and in good shape. One season my starboard engine was driving the mechanics and me crazy. Three impellers and a rebuilt pump later, I ...

Re: John Althouse / Marinette website
The Marinette Club website appears to be down as does the home page for Marinette.com. I have seen that some random pages are still around.

Re: CAPAC and Hull Potential question
Dave is right. It's a funny thing about us BigM owners. We can't help pushing that button all the time to see what the readings are at the dock, at the entrance to the creek, at anchor, in different water temperatures, etc. With the good advice on this thread and elsewhere, preventing electrolysis i...

Re: paint on the wall paper?
I pulled out all the old panels and used them for patterns for new ones. I peeled the covering off the bulkheads and put up wainscoating. I replaced the bulkhead between the head and the galley using the old one for a pattern. It was lots of work. If I had it to do over again, I'd use plastic panels...

Re: 32 sedan improper lay-up for winter storage
BIll is right on. You have to watch the yard. The first time they used the travel lift on my BigM, they had the slings going under the shafts. I stopped that before they began the lift. It seems like with all the I/Os like the yards have forgotten how to lift inboards. Good luck with your situation....

Re: Saltwater suicide?
Some BigMs came from the factory with the hose coupling for the freshwater flushing. My uncle visted the factory before he bought his 32 where they told him the tale of a Florida owner who left the intake valve (why they didn't use seacocks remains a mystery) open while attempting to flush an engine...

Re: Sherwood Raw Water Pump
I had something like that happen. I put a new pump in and a new gasket for the strainer. I even tried switching strainers. No luck. I then took off each piece one at a time and found a crack in the intake line that was hidden by the hose clamp. All that time and money when all it needed was a piece ...

Watch those wool pads if you've never used a buffer before. You may find this site useful: http://www.chemicalguys.com I've followed their advice and gotten good results. I borrowed my brother's r/a (random orbit) buffer last fall to polish my boat and was so happy with the results that I used my Am...

Re: bare bottom?
Jeff is right. I follow his scheme of power washing the bottom and applying Trilux 33. This keeps the bottom slick and the plastic boaters jealous. Some people sit at the dock more than I do--my dad used to love to just hang out on his houseboat--and might not care so much about saving on fuel. So l...

Re: Diesel Repower 1989 32' Fisherman
It would be way cool to have a 32 with a pair of Cummins. I'd be asking myself if I was going to be running the boat enough to justify diesel. Given the costs of conversion (and around here the cost of diesel fuel is higher) you have to consider whether you're actually saving. If you're running a lo...
