Anyone see a problem with using some hardwood, redwood or cedar for the backing plate, then the large washer plate that comes with the eye, then nuts on the inside of the boat?

Thanks for the replys guys. I am probably going to fix what I have, it works fine on 120v. My guy says he can probably fix the 12v side cheaply and easily.
