Re: Output shaft nut size

Depends on weather the Trans is 1:1 or reduction. Then I think they used to different coupler sizes on the gear reduction models that changed the nut size.

Is it clunking at idle or at any speed?

Re: Dri-Dek

I have never been on a boat that used it topside, but many of the bigger vessels I work on use it in the engine rooms. It keeps stuff dry, but collects stuff under it. You can hose it down many times, then pick it up and you will be shocked at what has accumulated.

Re: FWIW - 140 degree thermostats and raw water cooling

There is a second reason for a lower temp in a raw water cooled engine. This is, in my opinion, even more important than salt and sediment. A closed cooling system builds pressure as it heats up raising the boiling point of the coolant. With a raw water system, there is no pressure, keeping the boil...

Re: Alternator

Most of the new 1 wire 10si alternators have AC turn on regulators. This means that they fire up as soon as they spin fast enough to exceed battery voltage. I have two of the Arco units and would never go back.

Re: Sunken 32`

Never be afraid of a boat that sunk, as long as it was fresh water. I have repaired many boats that have seen varying levels of water in them. The wiring is not usually an issue, however any electrical component that went under will be. Garaunteed. Maybe not this season, or next, or even 5 years fro...

I would have taken you up on that offer if I would have seen this sooner. I was in st. Joe all day. If the offer still stands, and the O.P. is not interested, I will take it off your hands. PM me if interested.

Re: A word on Mallory brand ignition parts......

My big marine parts supplier notified me of this earlier this year. Same sierra parts but now with the Mallory price. I feel like my parts sources are going to put me out of business. Between cheap parts, people who don't care and parts departments being downsized to the bare minimum, it hurts...

Re: 1966 26 ft Marinette Express

They built them in V8-xxx (flywheel aft) and V8C-xxx (flywheel forward) versions of different hp. The xxx in the model would be the hp rating. Post '64 engines using Rochester carbs added an f to the model after the v8 or v8c.

Re: Newbie here

Distributors both turn same direction. That is why they have the thrust spacer and different driven gear/oil pump shaft.

Re: 1966 26 ft Marinette Express

3100 is probably the sweet spot for that engine. The way they are built, I would trust them to 6000rpm and my only fear would be floating valves. Everything is forged and we'll balanced from the factory. The block has incredible bracing on the main bearing webs. Lots of extra iron in all the right p...
