Re: Fuel or Ignition Issues After Warm Up

You'll need an oil pressure switch with a set of normally open contacts (that close under oil pressure--the opposite of the present oil pressure switch). I found a 1990s era Mopar oil pressure switch that did the job. The wiring is fairly straight forward: The FP ground goes through the above switch...

Re: Sorry, but another Trim Tab question

Had that same problem with my 32 footer with myheavy dink boat on the back. The 70 hp motor's weight produced an incorrectable port list underway. I added a 1/2 inch block of aluminum under the ram (attached to the tab). Since that corrected it the problem was NOT a lack of power in the hydraulic un...

Re: Fuel or Ignition Issues After Warm Up

Nearly all modern inboards use electric pumps. The "uncool" thing is to wire them so the pump remains running when the engine stops--it's also illegal. After trying various ways to 'prime the engine' (after it sat a while--the carbs are dry after a week) I installed electric pumps with a b...

..."I had the firing order reversed as FastJeff pointed out (could kiss you buddy). "

As Patton once said (when a drunk Russian general wanted to kiss him). "If I had known, I would have shaved extra close this morning!"

Re: Fuel or Ignition Issues After Warm Up

You might have a carb loaded with "White Gook" thanks to ethanol gas. It will not burn, and goes right through filters (including water separators). Try this next time you have the problem: Shut off the gas and run the carb dead empty, pumping HELL out of the throttle as it dies out. Open ...

Re: cam timing

I doubt it. Ignition timing is another animal from cam timing, but I agree that a cam retarded 5 degrees will reduce mid-range torque--the torque a boat needs most of all. If you engine is 'unhappy' without some extra advance at idle, that usually means a vacuum leak, idle adjustment off, or some ot...

Re: Firing Order / Timing Problem?

Had to laugh at your plight! (Sorry.) Been there, done that, tore out some of my remaining hair, etc. The "mechanics" at my old slip did a compression test on my starboard motor (for the insurance company--long story). They mixed up a couple of wires--which is damn easy to do on SB Mopars ...

Re: Dingy Talk

One of our members had one of those tunnel hull-like inflatables, about an 11 footer as I recall. (I think it's called a DUX.) Very impressive! Fast and amazingly stable. We went from our big Ms to supper using it one night--at least a 1/2 dozen of us--and it was solid as a rock.
