Damn right they should be test run on the shop floor. I ran mine for at least a half hour.

That's excellent gas mileage!
Once again, adding power--with the right prop--increases gas mileage at cruising speed.
Jeff
PS: A bit squirrelly at 36 mph, right?

Re: Replacing aft deck
The aluminum was damn hot on ones feet, but I noticed no sound difference. A cheap, through away rug solved that problem (and looked good to boot). To protect the wood, I carefully sealed the aluminum all around the deck. After at least 5 years, it was still sound. Jeff PS: I too am (wasn't) up to c...

Re: Ignition switch and starting issue.
There's two different Prestolite distributor cap/ rotor combinations: One has the spring carbon plunger (for the coil wire) in the cap; the other has it as a stainless spring on the rotor. The two designs are different in diameter and are NOT interchangeable. Check to see where the springy element i...

Re: Replacing aft deck
Any aluminum will work since it's not under water. I added 1/8 inch Al to mine by simply screwing it down into the wooden deck. Any rotten areas--and were several--I replaced first. Much easier to do it that way, and the floor is solid. I used SS flat head screws countersunk so they were flush. Jeff

Re: Transmission: Velvet-drive or others?
Good point on the gear ratios. Whatever you choose, be sure you can live with the gear ratio for it's very hard to make up with the prop what you loose with the wrong gear ratio in the trans.

Re: Ignition switch and starting issue.
That happened to mine as I was on the way to meet up with Joel A. many years ago. Drove me batty until I found out what it was: The ballast resistor's crappy connector was loose and making a bad contact. In this case it would fire up while cranking, then die when I let go the switch. Here's the deal...

Re: Seacock Replacement
Warning to all: If you have to close that seacock in a hurry (blown hose or etc.) it better work! I 'exercised' mine every year, and they didn't like to move.

Re: EFI Repower
So the NEW generation does? Where is the sensor?
Jeff
PS: Running in open loop, the old EFI set up shouldn't do any better on gas mileage than a well-tuned carb. Motor would start and initially idle better, I suppose.
