Re: Marinette 39 Sedan sea trial

(Jeff, he said no in the post above). Jim Elias has good info but I'd just offer one change in the order of things -- check the coolant outflow first. Make sure it's flowing nicely, then you can look at the other items. A good job for a mate or guest.

Re: Marinette 39 Sedan sea trial

I forget whether that mechanical survey was professionaly done. But it's probably now a moot point. Wondering whether having your mechanic onboard would be useful. Considering the purchase price, the labor charge for an hour might be worth it if you are uncertain what to check.

Re: Marine Sealant

Jeff is correct, 5200 has a really strong grip - it's referred to as a "permanent" adhesive, hardening like rock or steel. It's 4200 that you want to use - it seals well and is considered removable. Here's how it's described by the mfr: "...3M 4200 Fast Cure is a one-part general purp...

Re: Marinette Production History

Marinette, or what was left of it, went on the auction block in 1994. John Althouse bought the name, tools, parts. He hoped to resurrect the brand but was unable to do it.

Re: water hose

A strong hunch here that you will not enjoy. There is probably no part number for that since water hoses can be in such an infinite range of lengths that they are sold by the foot. I'm afraid you will have to engage a helper to pull this one and replace it with one of the same length that you purcha...

Re: Wear - Shaft

Advice from a boat maintenance article I read: double the wear you measure on one side of the shaft. If, for example, there's a 1/8" notch, it's actually 1/4" because the wear, of course, is on both sides of the shaft. This example is extreme - 1/4" is a failure waiting to happen. Hop...

Re: Hull or vin number...

30 (btw - it's a better idea to limit threads to the initial topic. In this case, the topic was HIN's. Cramming in another subject like oil and oil changes is confusing and makes searches more difficult. It would have been better had I not responded but since the original poster is new to the site, ...

Re: Bottom paint dilema

Good question: mine was done using glass beads as the abrasive. But "soda" (prob a ground up mineral) and sand are also common. Check w/blasting contractor and/or the paint mfr. I don't have the tech expertise to recommend one over the other.

Re: Hull or vin number...

The vin/hull number (it's actually called HIN, hull identification number) required to be attached to boats was on or just below the stern rub rail. It was a required tag starting for boats made after Nov 1972. Pretty sure this photo with the location circled is accurate. I believe the number starte...
