Re: Burning smell
Thanks for the ideas so far...I will check out the belts next time I'm at the boat. I installed a new one-wire alternator earlier this season and have periodically been checking on it so I will take another look at how that's doing. I am at the helm station when I notice the smell. Pretty sure it's ...

Burning smell
I'm getting a fairly noticeable burning smell any time I exceed about 1500rpm. I'm not seeing any smoke or finding any melting hoses. The engine does really does not seem to leak oil anywhere but maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places...
Ideas? No smell at all below approx 1500 rpm

Large Marinette fuel consumption
Those with BigMs in the 37-41 ft range - what kind of fuel consumption is typical for these? Going slow vs cruising? I realize there are many factors that affect this but just curious for your estimates.

Re: V6 Crusaders
Twin V6 Crusaders sounds like a cool setup to me. A large number of 28' Marinettes have a single Chrysler 318. In my mind, 3 benefits of this setup would be: more horsepower than a single, easier maneuverability , and the redundancy/safety of 2 engines. If your single engine dies on the river, you'r...

Re: Packing box "wobbling" at low RPMs
UPDATE: Pulled the boat and saw right away that the prop was slightly bent due to hitting a stump at low speed. Had the shop check the shaft for runout and the they found it to be perfect. They also adjusted the placement of the shaft anode and checked the torque on all the drive saver bolts. So, I ...

Re: Packing box "wobbling" at low RPMs
Other info to consider: My cutless bearing is new for this season. I am also running a brand new propeller shaft this season. I have a Globe Drivesaver installed. Packing box wobbled before and after drivesaver was installed. I did hit something last week but again, the wobble was there BEFORE this ...

Here's a link to the bow eye that DiverDennis put on his boat.

Packing box "wobbling" at low RPMs
From 600-1500 rpm the packing box is vibrating/wobbling around - lock nut remains tight though. When I reach 2000+ rpm the packing box remains completely still. It's leaking a little more than it should but nothing crazy. Any ideas? I just want to make sure it's not going to work itself loose and st...
