Re: shaft alignment
Here is how I do it using the shaft as the alignment tool: Disconnect shaft from engine. Center the shaft in the shaft log. Position the strut in place over the shaft and in place against the hull. Mark and drill holes. Mount the strut. Align the engine. Keep in mind that a new strut will almost nev...

Re: Crank Mount Raw Water Pump
I think the Volvo Penta pump would be a good candidate for this. I wish I had room to fit pumps like that on my boat but there is not enough room between the crank and bulkhead.

Re: Not even sure how to ask about this...
I cannot speak from actual experience other than owning a boat that spent 14 years in Florida. My 1972 express was in and around Melborne, Fl until it was brought to Michigan in 1986. My understanding is that the boat spent most or all of that time in salt water. Rumor says that she made weekend tri...

Re: 32 fly transport
Don't worry about the shaft size as much as the coupler size. If you pull your shafts you will likely have to buy new couplers anyway (they are a light press fit and after years of use and rust almost never come off without distortion or destruction). The big question is do both boats have 1:1 or re...

Re: 32 fly transport
One thing you have to remember is that even though these boats were mostly cookie cutter designs for a given length there were some dimensional differences throughout the years. For example, I know that the OAH of my '72 32' is about a foot less than the '86 32' just around the corner and around 8&q...

Re: 32 fly transport
My '72 32 footer has 1" shafts. Most of the boats with 1:1 trans had 1" shafts. The ones with reduction gears seem to all have 1.250" shafts. My boat is too tall to go down the road without pulling the bridge. I don't remember the number but it was taller than I expected for a 32 foot...

Re: 318/392 Stroker Motors
About the only way coolant won't flow to a certain part of the block is if you develop steam pockets under the deck. The old 400 chevys had special steam holes drilled between block and head to minimize this. Coolant only enters the block through one spot on each bank, but flows around the cylinders...

Re: 318/392 Stroker Motors
It sounds to me like you have a warped head/block or are developing a hot spot in the head or block between those two cylinders. I have read that the later 318 blocks had substantially thinner cylinder walls compared to the early blocks. Can I assume you have a .040" over bore to get to 392ci? ...

Re: 318/392 Stroker Motors
This has been an interesting thread. I have always been one to modify and "upgrade" things to see what can improve, or grenade. Reading through all of the posts I have a few questions for you. 1 do you have any pictures of the blown head gaskets? How a gasket fails tells a huge story. 2 wh...

Re: 318 ignition system
Did you use the correct 6 deg. mark for the direction of engine rotation? This has bit me a few times over the years.
