I am not sure that is the case here. Here are photos of both the port and starboard engines I took before I disassembled everything and the orientation of the pumps are the same. Any ideas?

I am rebuilding a pair Chrysler 318s and I did not take notice of the plumbing of the fresh water cooling system when I was disassembling the motors. I found that a heat gun and a scraper work well. I use paint thinner to clean up the residual bitumen. Next step is acid etch then epoxy prime.

I am restoring the boat and while the engines are out, I want to clean the bilge. A lot of the coating has peeled up already so I wanted to epoxy coat the exposed metal.

Removal of interior bitumastic coating on hull
Is there a good way to remove the foil-covered tar coating on the inside of the hull? I have tried pressure washing, strong soap / scrubbing, engine degreaser, and mechanical scraping. Any ideas?
