Re: Motor refit

But where do you get the struts? That's the problem I had a few years ago. Fortunately John A was still in business and made one for me. By the time I had a shaft made, got the strut from John and the prop re-worked, I could have bought a lower unit and been back in business faster.

Re: 1976 28 Express

So it looks like there's no galley or dinette, but settees port and starboard?

An interesting concept.

Re: Worth Buying? 76' 37 foot sedan

Looks like a big time restoration--keep me away or the Admiral will have me courtmartialed--but I'd want to see the bottom before my money went hard. Give the bow and side railings a good shake. I agree with everything that's been said, but make any offer contingent upon a satisfactory survey, hire ...

You mean like this one:

Yes, they are much better than those finger-pinching side mounts.

You might even be able to make some with a little bit of engineering.

Good luck.

Re: Marinette purchase advice

Interesting. My uncle told me his 32 sedan came from the factory on a drop axle trailer--that would have been about 600 miles.

Re: Marinette purchase advice

A 32 wouldn't be all that different to handle than a 28. If you have twin engines (assuming both are operating) it's easy. Take a safe boating course, get a patient teacher, and spend time learning how to operate the boat. I've run boats my whole life and will spend time at the beginning of every se...

Re: What year and model is this boat?

That kills my guess--a later model 28' fisherman. There was a 26' express on the river a few years ago so it's possible one or more went out the door with a flybridge. I believe they were made in the 1960s. You know the hull number was stamped on the upper starboard corner of the transom--right? The...

Re: 62 40 ft ?

Looks like an old 32 that someone extended. I'd pass but suppose it would be okay if they knew what they were doing. Like everything else: it would be okay if you did it right though I can think of a few things that would trouble me.

Thanks for the warning. It's tough being conned and sometimes tough to tell people about it.

Don't beat yourself up any more than you have already.

Best,

Re: hull repair

Very good point about pounding out the dent. Back in the late 1990s, I looked at a 26' 1966 Inland Seas cruiser. They were made of steel, but had wood cabins. The then current (or maybe a PO) owner did a crummy job of fiberglassing over the cabin top and I wasn't about to tackle that job. There was ...
