Re: To appraise or not to appraise

To bad the boat tired you out. I would suggest to anyone with a project cruiser to get it running and in the water before working on the cosmetics or fly bridge. From your post I assume that the engines are out of the boat. I don't see the problem in sending your engines out for a rebuild. There are...

Re: Salon Flooring

I taped off the perimeter of the plywood salon floor about 18" to 2' deep. I power sanded only this area down to nice fresh wood. I hooked up a small shop vac to catch all the dust. I stained and varnished the bands of wood. I used minwax "gunstock" stain and a minwax quick drying var...

Re: What dosent your marina let you do?

A 39' is hard to manage in Wisconsin without a marina with a boat lift and an adjacent lot or barn to store and work on the boat. I live in the U.P in Michigan. I had to buy a big trailer and a one ton pickup to manage my 32'. I store mine in unheated indoor storage. I have to remove the flybridge t...

Re: If in doubt, haul it out. Please post a copy of this

This year I ran my boat to the takeout point in pretty rough water. We got slammed around even using the indoor helm. If we were up on the flybridge we could have been flipped overboard. I was trying to meet the schedule of the yard operator and the shop reconditioning my trailer. Never again - next...

Re: Mildew removal

Teak trim wood shouldn't rot. I turns grey and white with streaks of black mold. Use the cleaning solution with a brush then a little sanding to smooth out the raised grain. It should be a uniform grey or light brown. Teak oil should bring back the teak color if not use a little stain. You only need...

Re: Replacing boat interior walls and ceiling idea

My first Marinette, a 28' sedan, had rotten and delaminated walls. I pulled them all out to use as patterns for new material. There wasn't any way to get high quality teak 1/4" panels up here at anything near reasonable prices. I bought cheap 1/4" plywood with one nice sanded side, typical...

Re: Repower Discussion

I hired somone to repower my first Marinette with a long block and it didn't go well. First it was expensive because I needed a lot of bolt on new parts especially because he ordered and installed the wrong rotation engine. The biggest mistake was rebuilding the engine in the hold. It should be buil...

Re: 1984 360

Raw water system should operate between 130 F and 160 F not to exceed 200 F.
Fresh water system (closed with anti-freeze) should operate between 140 F and 190 F not to exceed 210 F.
140 F thermostat work for both.

Re: Mildew removal

I use the dawn, bleach, tsp solution for general cleanup in my kitchen and boat. I just pour about 2 oz of dawn 4 oz of bleach and a tablespoon of tsp into a 16 oz spray bottle. Top it off with water decant 1/2 into another spray bottle and top both off. Vary the mix according to what you are trying...

Re: Need info on steering

Look up Morse Red Jacket control cables. Might be made by Teleflex now. Westmarine.com has a good selection.
