It's a "Nailhead" all right, but God help you if you need new exhaust manifolds! I'd say way away from it.

Re: Understanding the CAPAC
Seeing you are in fresh water, magnesium is the only way to go! I had a block of it bolted to the top of my trim tabs. Got great readings for many years as it was slowly used up.

Re: Understanding the CAPAC
Yeah. I'd add a magnesium guppy to get the reading up a few points.

Re: One engine cruising (dragging prop)
About the only way you stop that dead engine's prop from rotating would be with a mechanical lock of some kind, and that would cause wasteful drag. I ran one motor regularly at my previous marina (that had a 2 mile no wake zone). Better on gas, and the boat just sounds better. I relite the dead moto...

Re: Replacing my 318 with a new 360
Right, and front mounts are also slightly different (I'm told). It would be a good move to locate a junker 360 and steal the parts you need for a long block won't have any of that stuff.
You'll need a prop upgrade as well--about 2 inches more pitch.

Re: Propeller Shaft Anodes
I used Boat Zinc on mine and they needed replacement every two years (in brackish water). That means they were working, right?

Re: Before and After Topside Color Scheme
Ever notice how dark colored boat are much more visible at a distance? So why are so many boats painted white? "White, white the body shop delight; covers every screw up in sight!" This is especially true with mass produced fiberglass boats. Paint a decent looking white boat (or car) black...

Re: Re-power
Hate to say it, but your mechanic is in over his head. No other excuse for so many leakage problems. The exhaust manifold to riser joints WILL leak water into the motor unless they are spotlessly clean, have new gaskets, and are siliconed on both sides. Also, one has to tighten the 4 bolts correctly...
