Re: Wanted 37 or 39 Marinette. Gulf Coast Boat.
My uncle's 32 came from the factory with the flybridge on a special lowboy trailer. They scraped one of the struts along the way so Marinette sent him a new strut. It ended up working out because he had a spare strut to replace the one he bent running aground near Cape May. My wanderlust and need fo...

Re: Can I make a rudder using Aluminum?
I'd think it would take more engineering to make aluminum rudders. The boat's hull strength comes in part from the frames and cross members and there must be some reason why the rudders weren't made from aluminum in the first place. Not like there wasn't plenty lying around the shop! You could theor...

Re: Prop Shaft Seal question
Thank you. Correct, a little water in the bilge from the shaft seal is no big deal.
The boatyard tried to sell me on dripless stuffing boxes, but at $500 a pop, I can live with some bilge water.

Re: 440 Chryslers in 32ft sedan flybridge
Even if they weren't on the published price list, I'll bet you could get the factory to put them in--and other things if you wanted to shell out for them. I heard of one 40' houseboat owner who got one very large engine hatch over both engines instead of one over each engine. When he ordered his 32 ...

Re: Prop Shaft Seal question
I have to be missing something. How do you check the stuffing box while the shaft is turning? Do you do it while the boat is moving? I can't see shaft drips from the deck so I have to do it in the engine compartment with a time piece. Dong this while underway strikes me as very unsafe. I check it wh...

Re: water hose
You probably want to replace the whole hose. My two cents says a coupler is an opportunity for failure. Good luck. I had an overheating problem once and finally traced it to that same hose: there was a crack underneath the hose clamp on the upstream side of the water pump. The rest of the hose looke...

Re: Marinette Boat literature
Thank you for posting those materials. It looks to me like the brochure was from the early 1970s. As a kid, I remember seeing a 32 sedan at the Cleveland boat show with the layout shown in the brochure and was surprised when my uncle's 1979 32 sedan showed up without the big front windows and the he...

Re: counter tops
That is very interesting. On my 28, I took the galley and head counters to a shop where they made new ones for me--from a better grade of laminate. I gave them precise measurements of the tops of the hanging locker and cabinets between the dinette and v-berth and glued the new laminate pieces on top...

Re: 1985 Sportsman Restoration Beginning
When I did the interior on my 28, I used luan, back-primed it and covered the front with a vinyl-like material. Doing an entire panel at at time can be tough because even though I rolled out the material throughly (using a floor roller designed for vinyl floors) and only got a few air bubbles that a...

Nice job on that old boat by the way.
