Re: One wire alternator

On a one wire alternator isn't the voltage regulator internal, thus completely bypassing any external regulator?

Re: One wire alternator

Replaced both of mine last year with Arco's, wired them directly to the positive battery lead, they've never missed a beat.

Re: BALLAST in the stern of 39 Sedan

Have seen people put bags of concrete in houseboats to level them out. At 2000 lbs. you've got about a $1000 stash.

Re: Compression check on 318’s

I would immediately be suspect something is wrong. When I purchased mine it ran so well I elected not to do a compression check, bad mistake. In the two years of ownership both engines have been replaced and it was not cheap. If the boat is in good shape make him an offer less the cost of two engines.

Re: 318 Timing?

5 degrees is correct, just had mine recheck and adjusted. Port engine kept stalling at idle, set at 5 degrees then a slight twist to fine tune.

Re: Stern railing design

Currently mine is in good condition but looking down the road have thought about having them redone in sheet aluminum and powder coated. Not only the lower but the fly bridge also. Take the strips or the whole pieces and have them copied, edges smoothed, powder coated and you'd never have to fool wi...

Re: Need a strut

Yes John Althouse's father still sells parts, spoke with him this morning about rudders, rudders and struts are made to order. He said call him at 619-208-6458 and leave a message if he doesn't answer. Said son is doing better and attending therapy on a regular basis.

Mine came directly from Marinette, that was a good year and half ago. The father was handling all affairs at the time.

Re: engines seem locked up

Will second the above, pull the plugs, liberally spray the cylinders with Marvel Mystery Oil or PB Blaster, let sit for a day or so, disconnect the coil, lay a large towel over the engine and try and turn it over. Hopefully the fogging just has them gummed up real bad and the solvents will free them...

Re: Topside Paint

Still looks good, holding up well, Gloss White for the hull, Navy Blue for the stripe. Used 3/4" reflective white tape for the pinstripe. Have yet to finish the rest, between work and the weather just can't seem to "Get er Done".
