Re: rudder bushing
That's an interesting observation. My guess is that if the shaft zinc isn't worn and there's no corrosion on the shaft, put it back and forget about it. I would be surprised if that is copper on the zinc. Doesn't seem to make sense BTW folks, I have a pair (I'm pretty sure iot's two - though it may ...

Re: What to look for on a inspection
Most of what you noted is cosmetics with wear as expected. Pop would need to be straightened, not a big deal. Window leak significant but almost always easily fixable with about 5 bucks of sealant. Someone else may comment on rudder play. I don't know whether 1/4 inch slop is out of range. Most sign...

Re: Hull Preparation & Painting
Pls note that coating the hull must take place within hours of sanding to bare metal. Letting the bare metal sit even overnight isn't a good move because aluminum very quickly oxidizes, coats itself to prevent corrosion. That coating interferes with the ability of paint to stay attached. so, if time...

Re: Rough seas
The boat can handle rough seas. For me, really rough was a day with 4-footers. Taken head on or a little off the bow, it's a roller coaster ride with some hard landings but the boat isn't jeopardized - just an insult to passenger comfort (though it was never bad on the bridge). Following seas are a ...

Re: Surveyor tasks while boat in the sling
I just googled "isolating bolt sleeve" and while I didn't aee a Marinette image, there are lots of examples and I included alink to one that is close to what I remember my boat was equipped with http://www.centralplastics.com/en_US/gfcp-products2/flangeprod.html Of course, the idea is to k...

Re: picture of hull annodes.
glad to hear that -- the son (John Althouse) bought out a very large and varied inventory of genuine Marinette parts and other stock. You could save yourself a lot of aggravation by checking here when you are in the market for parts for M's

Re: Surveyor tasks while boat in the sling
don't know about ultra sound but lots of tapping might reveal a weak spot (like probing wood with a screw driver to detect termites). Visual inspection will reveal pitting and corrosion. If there is serious, extensive pitting, survey over. No need to even bother with engines. You might find shaft co...

Re: picture of hull annodes.
When/how did you buy zincs from Marinette? thought they had gone out of business since the owner had health issues (still alive?). THey had appropriate ones for both fresh and salt water for sale.
