Looking for a Sportsman

Post by fivehorse »

Hey All- I have been poking around here for a while and am finally ready to buy my first M! Ideally I'm looking for a Sportsman w/ fly bridge and twins but I am willing to consider a twin (or single) hardtop if it's the right one. I have checked out a few but they didn't make the cut (price too high/too much work needed, etc) Sooooo, if any of you are looking to sell or know of one for sale please let me know.

Thanks!

-Steve (fivehorse)

-BTW, I am located in NW Ohio but would be willing to travel for the right boat.

69 32' has been on CL for awhile. Price dropped to $4900. Have not seen it personally. It's at Rivertowne Marina near Cincinnati OH.

You mention (or single) in your post. I am sure there are many who love the benefits of a single inboard, but for one who started with a 28' single and just moved to a 32' twin, get a twin engine boat. Fisherman is a nice model as well.

Thanks for the reply's! I'm really looking for a 28' as I would like to be able to trailer it some. The cockpit size on the Sportsman is a main selling point for me. Does the Fisherman have as big of one? Also, not so sure about the fly bridge only early/late in the season or when the weather turns bad. Double helm seems like a good idea to me. Def leaning towards a twin... I've heard both sides but a twin sounds like the preferable way to go.

Go with the 28' sportsman I bought one last year put a new aluminum trailer under it, re-powered it with a Iveco S-30 230 hp 4 cylinder diesel 22 knots
Very Happy. Can go fish anywhere I want, live on Vancouver Island, British Columbia Canada

Bob, there have been many discussions about repowering BigM s with diesel but it seems few have actually gone that route.

If you have time to make a post with some details about your setup, I'm sure many people here would be very interested. Things like propeller size/pitch, prop shaft diameter, what transmission you used, was the Iveco already marinized or did you have to modify it, did you have to raise the floor to accomodate the height of the engine, fuel economy...

Especially in a 28' where space is limited, I'd be very interested in how you pulled it off! Sounds like a great setup.
