318/392 Stroker Motors

Post by Trowerpower »

Happy to report our 392 stroker motors have 140 hours on them, still running great with no oil consumption and good oil pressure!

29 mph on the GPS at 4,000 rpm. Please note I have full iesenglass on the fly bridge, large batteries for my house setup that weigh 410 lbs, 6.6kw generator. Etc. I am looking to try different props next year. Running 16 x 15 three blades presently. 1:52 × 1 trannies.

That is very good performance - 29 mph at 4,000 with a lot of wind resistance up top and extra weight below. We had a similar boat with 318's, same props and trans and settled for 24mph at best.

My old 32 footer did 32 mph with stock 360s. (No flybridge or gen set and only two aboard.) It was stable at that speed, by the way. Felt my wallet beginning to disintegrate so I slowed right back down to cruise speed!

I seem to recall John Hall saying his 32 footer (w/ 325 hp S B Chevies) approached 40 mph with his trick Aussie props (but was a bit "tender" at that speed).

Those numbers are solid for that rpm, I assume u weren't trying to push it? Those motors should make enough torque in that setup to run up to about 4800 rpm and that'll put you at about 35mph. I'm seeing 43-44 mph @4400, but it is not overly stable at that speed. Where we boat the water is only right for that kinda running about once a year.

1:1 velvets lots of torque and a little extra cup, prop magic. Doesnt hurt that the 69 has the old flat pad hull. Speed is about all it's good for.

Happy New Year!
Going to try different props in the spring, four blade propeller. Will follow up with results.
140 hours on the 392 stroker motors, still running/starting well.
