Okay, but they HAD to have different gears to work properly.

Re: reverse rotation engines
On the camshaft or whatever turns the distributor maybe, but the distributor just has the slotted shaft coming out of it.

Re: reverse rotation engines
Distributor/oil pump drive shaft and gear is a separate part from the distributor that fits down in engine block. Distributors are identical and interchangeable. The drive gears are machined with opposite helix to give reverse rotation to crank and cam while retaining clockwise distributor rotation.

Re: reverse rotation engines
Right! Forgot about that. The assbackwards gear is on the oil pump driving shaft.

Re: reverse rotation engines
It's simple. A reverse ground gear on a reverse turning engine will spin it in the normal direction. Two wrongs do make a right

Re: reverse rotation engines
New owner here, 28’ flybridge 1978, I would like to know if my motor is reverse or standard rotation. If I’m looking forward which direction should motor be spinning? Clockwise or counterclockwise?
Re: reverse rotation engines
If that's a single screw, they usually are reverse rotation.
