Dual pocket water pump plumbing.

Post by seef158 »

Does anyone have or can someone take some pictures of how your dual pocket water pump hoses are attached from top and water pump side of the engine? I have a feeling mine may be plumbed incorrectly. Thanks in advance for any help, I am seeing conflicting diagrams on line.

The sea water intake hose should go to the bottom of the rear pocket. The top of the rear pocket discharges into a tee that feeds into the front of each exhaust manifold. The fittings on the bottom of the aft end of the exhaust manifolds discharge to a tee, through the trans cooler, and through a 1" hose to the bottom of the front pocket on the pump. The front pocket discharges through an elbow into the front cover of the engine, directly above the pump.
Hope that helps

That does help, the raw water intake was hooked to the front pocket when I got the boat, engine would never heat up but I had other things to worry about. Now I've got them routed properly per your directions and it is getting too hot, upwards of 180*-200*.... tstat is opening, I verified by pulling it while hot, it was open and closed up when I let it cool. Any ideas?

I should say, impellars ar good, plenty of flow verified by pulling hoses off various fittings.

Check the top of the trans cooler. All the rust particles from the exhaust manifolds tend to collect there.

Thanks, I'll check again... cleaned it once when I got the boat but could be more. Thanks again
