How is that possible?
In that case I would suspect the battery was good, and you only thought it was bad. I would suspect a bad contact in the ignition switch that had a high resistance so you did not have enough power to pull in the solenoid. That electricity stuff is magic.

Re-read your post and made me wonder if you had a battery with the side terminals. Have had the same problems and it was the battery cable to the battery connection. I hate those side terminals!
